In honor of all things college music, mtvU yesterday (Thurs., Mar. 13) held the 2014 edition of The Woodie Awards at SXSW. If nothing else, the results reminded me of how easy it is nowadays to disconnect from the mainstream – for better or worse. Two artists who I am not at all surprised to see holding trophies are Drake and Chance the Rapper. Both enjoyed remarkably fruitful years in 2013. Drake won the event’s top prize, “Woodie of the Year,” and Chance won the Woodie for “Best Video,” respectively.
