It was only a few weeks ago that Los Angeles producer Elusive graced our pages with the release of a new beat tape, Slap The Hip Hop Out Ya Face. But he’s back already with not one but two new instrumental releases. First, there’s intervals, a 22-minute “beattapemix” that mixes 8-bit sounds and vocal samples to create a laid-back, R&B-ish atmosphere.
While the other project, essential forms, is close to its counterpart in BPM, it also finds its own legs thanks to some nifty synthesizer effects and off-kilter percussion. That’s not to say it’s “weird” or a difficult listen, because it’s not. There’s a cohesive feel to essential forms (and intervals, too) and some straight-up solid cuts, like my personal favorite “musique”.
