Download: Mr. Chop – “T.R.O.Y” (Pete Rock cover) [mp3]
Posted on October 21st, 2009 by Andrew Martin in Downloads, tags: mr. chop, pete rockApparently this joint is a take on the Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth classic “T.R.O.Y.”. While I’m only hearing certain elements of the original in this, it’s safe to say this is a ridiculously dope instrumental either way. Mr. Chop, who Stones Throw says is DOOM’s go-to-guy for instrumentals, clearly knows what he’s doing here. In fact, Mr. Chop co-wrote and co-produced several tracks off Born Like This. And now, the beatsmith is tackling Pete Rock classics on For Pete’s Sake. And good lord, if this track is any indication, I’m definitely copping the entire project. Hit the jump for the tracklisting and buy it here.

[...] According to Stones Throw, Mr. Chop is DOOM’s go to guy and he surely doesn’t disappoint as this cover is incredibly dope. Thanks Reyn. [...]
[...] Mr. Chop is a producer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist behind several Now-Again and Jazzman Records releases. Recent work as a co-producer & co-writer on a series of tracks on Born Like This from MF DOOM (who called him “the illest to grace the boards”) led to a chance to rework psych funk, jazz and rock covers of producer Pete Rock’s greatest beats, resulting in this album.
