With the retiring of a San Diego great in Blame One, it’s only right that the city hits us with a promising up-and-comer, Makeshift. Marty suggested this to me last week after spotting it at TUK, only got around to giving it a spin today. Let me tell you this people, the kid is way ahead of most newbie rappers these days. He might not be getting the same shine and attention that everyone else is, but he more than deserves his shot at it. It’s also great to hear a mixtape without the cliche instrumentals that everyone seems to choose these days. Be on the lookout for some of less-than-popular, but dope beats in the mix.
