Out of nowhere, Brainfeeder’s Jeremiah Jae dropped a new project dedicated to (and remixing) the Beastie Boys. At first blush, I’m thinking to myself, “Do the Beasties really need to be remixed by anyone?” A quick “Probably note” crosses my mind until the zip file finishes downloading and I load it into my iTunes. Immediately, it’s apparent that Jae’s blunted, tripped-out approach to producing is a choice complement to the Beasties’ brash, playful rhymes. It’s snarling and psychedelic; it’s lo-fi and off the wall; and it’s altogether rad.
