Download: Homeboy Sandman – “Angels With Dirty Faces” [mp3]
Homeboy Sandman is one of my favorite emcees doing it right now. His raps are just so honest and down to earth, how could you go wrong? This is, for me at least, the first hip-hop song I have heard regarding homeless people, and it is absolutely beautiful. With J57 on the boards, “Angels With Dirty Faces” made its debut on DJ Premier’s Satellite radio show this past weekend, and now we get our hands on it today. I am also receiving word that this will be one of the cuts off of Homeboy’s upcoming retail LP, which drops in February of 2010. Give it a spin and let us know what you think after the skip… And a bit of advice, you might want to put this one on repeat. Sandman is known to stick stuff in between the lines that you don’t quite catch the first time around. You might not be used to rap being this smart!
Dear Homeboy Sandman,
Thank you for being you.

This is definitely a nice track.
There have been a number of tracks made about homelessness though. First one that comes to mind is Arrested Development – “Mr. Wendal” from way back in the day.
Zach, everything has been done before. Think of Blues music.
Yeah that’s true.
No one mentioning the “White Room” sample!? I love it!
This song is AMAZING. The message, the beat, the lyrics, the chorus. INCREDIBLE.
WOW. Lyricism and production at its FINEST.
I think this dude is mad overrated. KRS did several songs about the homeless. Sandman is just weak to me.
Megalon-Peace to the Homeless 12″ comes to mind
This is what I’m talking about…this song is tuff! This Homeboy Sandman cat is someone I keep hearing about. The evidence don’t lie…I want to peep that new album he drop in 2010
