Emperess just sent over her newest mixtape, Outside the Box, showcasing her distinguished rhyming ability. If you are at all skeptical about this release, whether it’s because it is a female emcee or you have just never heard of her before, take my word for it, this DMV emcee is about to prove you wrong. And to be honest, there are few females that are really impressing me these days outside of people like Tiye Phoenix or Jean Grae. I am not sure she can be added to that esteemed list quite yet, but she is definitely on her way. Check it out and let us know how you feel for yourself…

It’s not her fault. But I do hold Vicelife Management responsible for making her debut look like it got made in a middle school computer lab during study hall.

Checked this out finally, on the logic that I’m just being an asshole, but….nah. She should put in more work before promoting herself, period. That wasn’t even a demo.
Strip this down to 3-5 of the best tracks, and re-record them ASAP. The sound quality on here was MySpace rapper shit, and in 2009 there’s no reason for that anymore. When you’re competing for attention, put in work on your product, your presentation. Now the association in my head when I hear her name is gonna keep me from checking out her future work…that’s just how brains work when there’s 10,000 new rappers coming out every year.
