Slap The Hip Hop Out Ya Face is a new beat tape/mix from West Coast producer Elusive, which is a fitting alias given the fact I can’t find a decent photo of the guy. Nevertheless, I’m not about to let that stop me from sharing his music from you, particularly because I was so fond of his previous release, Soundtrack of a Ninja. Like that project, Slap The Hip Hop Out Ya Face is big on dusty, crunchy percussion and well-placed doses of synthesizers.
They serve as a means to brighten up and diverse your typical boom-bap instrumental approach. This approach also bridges the gap between more traditional sampled-based joints and, say, the outer-space work of Ras G. Beat heads, pay attention. The same goes for anyone who loves Ghostface Killah flips, because Fishscale banger “The Champ” finds a whole new life on this tape.
