The folks over at Cosmic Compositions have done it again. Previously, we have raved about their projects paying homage to jazz giants Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders. And for their third tribute effort, they have gathered a gang of artists to pay tribute to another legend, Sun Ra. As you might know, he’s an artist close to our hearts here at Potholes—especially writer Le’Shawn Taylor who wrote a killer piece on Sun Ra’s importance.
With that in mind, I can safely speak for us all in saying that this third Avant Garde Series volume comes incredibly recommended. It doesn’t hurt, of course, that it features new material from the likes of Ben Jamin, Whoarei, Tuamie, Stainless Steele, Melodiesinfonie, and Christoph El Truento. Also, all the money that’s being raised by this project is being donated to agencies helping with the Philippines disaster relief.
