At the top of the year, we wrote about 12 artists that we thought y’all should watch for in the coming months. Among those was Chester Watson, a young rapper/producer fond of the murkier, grimier, and often more lo-fi side of hip-hop. And it’s only fitting that he’s capping off a solid year with a new release, Space Nobility. It’s a quick-fire project weighing in at barely 11 minutes (or so) and five tracks in length, all created organically by Watson and his instruments. The sample-free effort blends space-y jazz vibes with cellar-dwelling muck and seems to wrap itself up before you even realize it. Welp, that’s what the re-play button is for.
