Currently making music under the same group as the recently reviewed rapper/producer Oddisee, Mello Music’s Castle has released his free, 13-song digital album Oh, Far Out. The instrumental project combines elements of jazz, hip-hop and soul that ultimately coexist peacefully. Though certain tracks are seemingly mixed more quietly than others (the vocal sample of “Tendered” is a bit of a jump from the previous record, “Cool Things About Us”), and transitions are not entirely seamless, beauty lies throughout.
A narrator in the introductory track knowingly acknowledges, “We’re gonna make a little music.” Well, the music is little in that most of these tracks are less than two minutes in length, but the results are far grander in impact.
