If you have somehow been sleeping on the talents of Washington, D.C.’s Diggs Duke, I ask that you please stop, immediately, and allow his latest single to be your introduction. It couldn’t come at a better time, either, because he’s getting ready to release his new project, The Upper Hand And Other Grand Illusions, on Sept. 1 through Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings. This should be his biggest effort yet, in terms of thrusting him into the public eye, and with good reason: Diggs Duke is dope.
That sentiment is evident on “The Pinnacle (Of Class and Taste),” a tune that’s about “the moment you realize something is amazing.” Like, uh, this song? Because it is. Duke created it all on his own, too, and that includes the layers of instruments and vocals. They form an endearing, super-catchy canvas for his smooth vocals, which dominate the first portion of the track. The music is then allowed to fully breathe—rightfully so, because it’s very much a living, breathing part of “The Pinnacle.”

Thank you for the love, Diggs. Appreciate it.
Thanks a lot for your support, Andrew. I really appreciate it. Very proud of this project.
