For those unfamiliar, Denitia and Sene are a Brooklyn duo making some damn-good R&B these past few years. They’re now getting ready to release a new EP in November and if lead single “Side fx” is any indication, they have something special on their hands. When Denitia sings, “That’s the side effects of hurricanes,” she perfectly sums up the prevailing feeling this track elicits. Throughout “Side fx,” bright synths battle against matter-of-fact vocals, delivering a bizarre if not rewarding experience. It’s a weirdly beautiful if not otherworldly song that challenges the listener to take a ride in a hurricane of disparate genres. Where is this storm taking us? Only Denitia and Sene know.
