De La Soul’s latest cut “The Return Of D.S.T.” is a tribute to pioneering NYC turntablist Grandmixer D.ST. The new track has a slight futuristic sound to it but its still an ode to the old-school.     Futuristic?!?!?! The drums on this track are drums played by Pumpkin for the Treacherous 3 instrumental to Heartbeat. The sample they used is an Interpolation of Grandmixer DST and the Infinity Rappers… “Grandmixer Cuts it up” aka “Grandmixer C.I.U.” Both songs were recorded in or before 1984. Definitely an Ode to the Oldschool.
