Despite the fact he just dropped the quite good Don Speaks project with Donwill, Brooklyn’s multi-talented Dash Speaks is back with some new material. It’s a new instrumental jam by the name of “East Coast Overdose,” which is driven by a prominent flip of the Notorious B.I.G. proudly proclaiming he’s “the East Coast overdose” on “Party & Bullshit.”
Not just a simple and obvious sample-fueled cut, the track also features some slick piano and brass elements in addition to record scratching—a nod, of course, to Speaks’ work as a DJ. There’s also a footwork-y breakdown at the end accented by reggae/dub vocals that brings it full circle, as those same vocals are teased throughout. In other words, Speaks has crammed a lot into this nearly four-minute single that we are very proud to premiere here at Potholes.
