Daft Punk Get First Number One Album With ‘Random Access Memories’

daft punk random access memoriesDespite their status as innovators in dance music, Daft Punk, prior to their release of Random Access Memories, never came all that close to charting at the top spot. Today, though, that all changes, as their newly released album hits number one according to Billboard by moving 339,000 units in its first week.

Daft Punk’s Discovery hit its highest mark back in 2001 with the number 44 spot. Human After All just cracked the top 100 at 95 in 2005. Mixed with ridiculous anticipation over eight years and a rather stellar marketing push, this huge figure was finally met by the visionary French duo. [via]

    Right but two quick things:

1 – We’re based out of the U.S. so we’re looking strictly at their first-week sales here.
2 – We and hopefully no one would lump Daft Punk and especially this album into “EDM”
