This might be me just spouting nonsense, but when a producer chooses to use acoustic guitar in their beat they’re walking a very thin line. And, more often than not beat makers end up trying to trapeze this line, thinking they’re going to put on a show, thinking that they’re being edgy and different, but end up failing miserably. I don’t know. Something about acoustic guitar in hip-hop beats makes me think of $50 Yamaha keyboards, SoundClick producers and dynamic microphones. It gives me the shivers. Very rarely is it done right. Very rarely is it done in a fresh way. Connecticut producer color plus gets it right with “Webbed”–it walks the line and hits hard.
