When I think of witch house and Oakland, I think of the artist GuMMy†Be▲R! who released a pretty good album named after the city this year. But now, I’ll also remember Cold Love. Witch house seems to be the perfect genre for the city of Oakland, if only because of the Oakland Raiders and their fans that wear sharp edged headgear and black and silver facepaint. And Cold Love’s EP, Velvet Vein, sounds similarly dark. Sounds creep and echo, voices become instruments and pitch-shift bends vocals like chemicals do mutant fish. I’m certain Al Davis would endorse the musical gloom.
