Clipping.‘s killer 2014 just got better. Despite the fact that they could have just released their self-titled album and called it a year, they’re not about to do that. Not at all. The L.A.-based rap group just dropped a killer double-single, “Something They Don’t Know” b/w “Mouth,” that showcases their ability to craft posse cuts/all-out bangers.
That is particularly true on “Something They Don’t Know,” which finds frontman Daveed Diggs trading snarling verses with rising L.A. spitter SB The Moor, a Tekken-referencing Nocando, and a near-show stealing Open Mike Eagle. Oh, and I can’t overlook the cuts by Baseck, whose work on the turntables is a slick intro-of-sorts for Mike Eagle. As for “Mouth,” it’s a much harsher, “Quiet Storm”-referencing joint that features Black Mushroom and Chinaka Hodge, both of whom I clearly need to learn more about.
