One thing that makes Cities Aviv great is the fact that he never makes two songs that sound alike. As is the case with his new project Black Pleasure, which abandons all convention by diving into the grimy depths of the ’80s. The production is wild, driven by all sorts of distortion and stuttering percussion that delves into the realm of new wave and funk. If Ariel Pink decided to make hip-hop, this is what it would sound like. And the raps are in full effect, too–abrasive at times, but expansive nonetheless.
