Chucho Valdés – “Yansa”

We at Potholes believe in exposing your ears to some newness from time to time – you know, something a bit unexpected; so here we go. Chucho Valdés is a Cuban world and jazz musician from the famous musical Valdés lineage (his father was Bebo Valdés). He incorporates a freewheeling mix of afrobeat rhythms with dozens of instruments and chants. The result is somewhat of a clash of traditional African and Latin musical traditions. Check out “Yansa” from his album Chucho’s Steps to hear just what I’m talking about.
