Jazz has continued to creep up in popularity over recent months, as exciting musicians both young and old embrace newer movements to bring a refreshing vibe to the genre. I’m talking everyone from Robert Glasper to Flying Lotus. Trumpeter Christian Scott and his Quintet were performing in St. Louis not long ago when they pulled out a vivacious rendition of The Throne’s “No Church In The Wild”. That is right, the 88-Keys produced and Frank Ocean featured single from Kanye West and Jay-Z’s hyped collaborative album Watch The Throne. The melodies are distant but recognizable, making for a beautiful backing for these talented musicians to interpret and improvise for over 10 minutes. [via]
