Okay, I get it. Childish Gambino has a thick wallet. He has been able to swing some pretty credible features over recent months, but this is the last straw. We are talking about Beck here, one of the most creative artists of our time. A dude who has transcended genres and taken music to places it had never been before. Not only is Beck on Gambino’s latest song, but he is actually rapping, too. Like, back when he used to kill it on records like Mellow Gold. Am I really that off in saying that Gambino just isn’t worthy of this greatness?
“Silk Pillow” starts out flawlessly. With a crisp beat overflowing with intricate lyricism from Beck. But then, after a seemingly short verse, there is a break in the action. It appears Beck didn’t want to bless the Childish one with more than his money’s worth. After the break, though, the beat kicks back in and, well, Beck leaves us alone in a room to listen to Gambino fall short on one of the best beats I have heard in quite some time. Why, Beck, why?!?!! I’m sorry, that was a little harsh, but it is incredibly frustrating to see a rapper like Gambino get hooked up with such stunning collaborations that he doesn’t quite seem to deserve.

Forget the young Mr. Glover, I hope we get to hear Beck spit like that on his next record.
