Celebrate The Roots’ 20th Anniversary

the roots new Celebrate The Roots 20th AnniversaryDo you know what today is? Why yes, it’s July 12, 2012. But it’s more than just another day in this hotter-than-hell summer. Today serves as the 20th anniversary of the Roots‘ first-ever concert way back in 1992. That’s right, the Legendary Roots Crew has been playing together for two decades as of today. Of course, there have been several lineup changes over the years, including the recent departure of bassist Owen Biddle, who replaced longtime member Leonard “Hub” Hubbard.

We’re celebrating the Roots’ 20th anniversary with some of our favorite live performances by the group because, really, is there anything better than their live show? We think not. Personally, I’ve seen them seven times and every show has been unique, beyond engaging, and, to be honest, absolutely thrilling. From Captain Kirk Douglas shredding the f*ck out of his guitar to Questlove and Frankie Knuckles’ percussion battles to Black Thought maintaining his Terminator-like momentum on the mic, their concerts are just the best.
