He’s ¼ of the Goodie Mob, ½ of Gnarls Barkley, and a 100 percent reincarnation of what made soul and hip-hop great in the ’50s and ’90s respectively. Cee-lo Green’s latest album The Lady Killer spawned several hits including the wildly overplayed “Fuck You”, but that’s not to say the album (or rather its recording sessions) is without a few gems. The sleeper hit “Bridges” didn’t make the final cut for The Lady Killer, but was instead released as a B-side on the second single “It’s OK”. When the Neptunes get their hands in to anything, it’s going to be good. “Bridges” has the anthemic ’70s pop vibe that Neptunes fans love, replete with cheesy horn stabs and modulated Wurlitzer ditties. Cee-lo’s vocals have such an organic timbre, but he can really push the falsetto to new heights. It’s almost pointless bringing his singing up, because it’s always flawlessly executed. [via]
