Caves – “1993” [Potholes Premiere]

There are a ton of blogs out there that I admire, but I have a huge crush on Flashlight Tag and Verb/Re/Verb. So when their collective label known as Absent Fever gave me the honor of premiering yet another single from an upcoming release of theirs, I was all sorts of excited. This time it comes by way of Caves, a talented 18-year-old producer out of Los Angeles that is spearheading his efforts with some rather intricate sample-based music. Trying his luck with The Menahan Street Band’s “The Traitor”, which was originally sampled by KiD CuDi on “Solo Dolo (Nightmare)”, Caves lays down some Black Keys-esque vocals to make matters even more appealing. Along with the tasty audible treat, we also get a video collage and two stunning graphic collages thanks to acclaimed artist, Jesse Treece. Caves will be releasing his When You Were Partying, I Was Dying. EP on Feb. 21 via Absent Fever.

Stream the track and watch the video after the skip.

“Absent Fever focuses on collaborations between artists. This video is a collaboration between the collages of Jesse Treece, videography of Library Voices, and the music of Caves. The artist Jesse Treece composed two collages surrounding his interpretation of Caves’ song “1993”. Thereafter the collages were utilized as footage in the video translation of the song. The collaborative effort integrates three artists visual and auditory perceptions of one song.” – Tyler & Eloise of Absent Fever
