Miguel Atwood Ferguson Ensemble – “Drips/Take Notice” F. Flying Lotus

miguel atwood ferguson ensemble Miguel Atwood Ferguson Ensemble Drips/Take Notice F. Flying LotusJust received the latest video from Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble featuring LA based and Brainfeeder artist, Flying Lotus. Alongside the all-star cast of musicians, they do their rendition of “Drips” from Flying Lotus’s recently released album Cosmogramma and “Take Notice,” an arrangement of a J Dilla original from his Ruff Draft EP. You might be familiar with this arrangement of “Take Notice” from Mochilla’s “Timeless” DVD Box Set, specifically from the Suite for Ma Dukes portion. If you haven’t ordered the Timeless DVD box set featuring Suite for Ma Dukes its a definitely a worthy purchase.

Earl Sweatshirt – “Earl”

earl Earl Sweatshirt EarlEarlier this week we put you onto Domo Genesis’s bombed out album Rolling Papers, which, I have to say, I still haven’t stopped playing. Domo runs with Odd Future Wolf Gang (no Twilight!), a crew of restless teens from Los Angeles obsessed with druggy beats, agile rhymes, and illicit sex scenarios that usually involve Miley Cyrus. Where Domo’s the crew’s resident pothead, Earl Sweatshirt is its serial killer. In the vid for “Earl”, the gang drinks a concoction made of malt liquor, pills, weed, powder, and two different flavors of cough syrup, and things start getting weird. Don’t let the disturbing visuals distract you, though. Earl is a beast. I don’t know which is crazier: the concept for this video, Earl’s murderous subject matter, Tyler, the Creator’s corroded synth track, or the fact that this freaking 16-year-old kid would eat most of today’s millionaire MCs alive in a battle. It’s gonna be an odd future indeed.

Darien Brockington – “Rain”

darien brockington Darien Brockington RainChances are, if you’re a hip-hop head at least, you know this man’s name because of his link to Little Brother and the Foreign Exchange. His soulful crooning has graced more records than I can count with those two groups, particularly the latter as his vocals are a crucial element to the sounds of Connected and Leave It All Behind. But Darien Brockington isn’t just a guest singer. Dude’s been steadily building a nice solo career. And most recently, he dropped The Cold Case Files, an album that features the track featured here, “Rain”. We unfortunately don’t have the track available for streaming but what we do have the ridiculously sexy video. If you watch these visuals and hear the song and don’t feel some kind of way afterward, then you must either be celibate or inhuman. Or maybe you’re attracted to horses or some shit.

Progress Report – “Wake Up”

progress report Progress Report Wake UpWe previously brought to you a contest to win a 7″ vinyl from this Detroit crew led by spitter D. Allie. Although that giveaway has expired by two weeks, that doesn’t mean you should forget about Progress Report and their latest single, “Wake Up”. The aptly titled cut is given the video treatment here and just in case you didn’t know what they were rapping about on here, you will probably figure it out after checking the visuals. Also, damn, D., I didn’t know you got on your goofball shit like that.

Black EL – “100 Miles” prod. Durkin [Video]

black el Black EL 100 Miles prod. Durkin [Video]

By now you’re surely familiar with the young, up-and-coming emcee/producer duo that is Black EL and Durkin. The two have put together quite the album in this summer’s Color Commentary. One of the leaked singles, “100 Miles”, now has an accompanying video, which was debuted at the Annie Mulz Concrete Jungle in Boston last week (yes – we’re a bit late on the post). Regardless, the fine lyrical performance from EL, slick production from Durkin, and highly appealing visuals courtesy of Beyond Measure productions make for a great final product.

Here is the video for the lead single from the Transmitting Live Mixtape that we dropped many moons ago. Featuring Toronto heavyweights Muneshine, Fundament and D-Sisive, this is definitely a banger that you will want to check out. Give it a spin and let us know what you think.

8thw1 & 2 Hungry Bros – “Can’t Win ‘Em All” f. Fresh Daily, P.So, & Homeboy Sandman

8thw1 and 2 hungry bros 8thw1 & 2 Hungry Bros – Cant Win Em All f. Fresh Daily, P.So, & Homeboy SandmanAfter playing the album a handful of times, I cannot blame Potholes writer Ali Elabbady for gushing about 8thw1 & 2 Hungry Bros’ killer No Room For Dessert. It’s a rarity these days that a record can be so direct and contain massive replay value. Maybe it’s the fact that the entire album feels like one long freestyle session with 8thw1 spitting over ever-rotating, funk-laden production from 2 Hungry Bros. One of the finer examples of this is “Can’t Win ‘Em All”, which features 8thw1 being joined by fellow AOK family Fresh Daily, P.So, and Homeboy Sandman, the last of whom tackles the hook only. It makes for a great lil’ posse cut that’s paired up with one of the more hilarious videos I’ve seen this year, which you can view after the skip here. I swear, these guys have way too much fun doing this music shit.

Time Crisis – “Blue Lips”

time crisis Time Crisis Blue LipsHere’s a little something that’s just a bit off. Clearly inspired by the strange brand of hip-hop and alternative rock manufactured by the likes of Awol One, Factor, Ceschi and all those Fake Four guys, comes Time Crisis and partyboobytrap. Time Crisis is an instrumental duo from Pennsylvania, and the first leak from their self-titled album, “Blue Lips”, is an eerie, somewhat drugged-up ballad featuring the Boston hip-hop duo partyboobytrap. This is certainly not like many other musical acts around, so I’ll be interested to know what you think.

Stream the track below or download it after the skip. Also check out the music video after the skip, directed by Nick Heller, who has previously worked with artists such as Homeboy Sandman and Fresh Daily.
