amp live 187x300 Under The Radar: Amp Live vs. Why? One Dark Eskimo Remixes [EP]Producer Amp Live, who many know as one-half of Zion I, is more than just a boom-bap beats creator. The guy also apparently loves to remix the hell out of whatever he can get his hands on. His most notable remix work saw him tackling tracks off Radiohead’s In Rainbows for the controversial Rainydayz Remixes project. But Amp Live didn’t stop there. In between crafting more beats for Zion I and his own solo record, he tried his hand at tracks off Why?’s Eskimo LP. The result is One Dark Eskimo Remixes, which technically dropped almost two months ago but just recently caught my eye. Enjoy!

Theo 238x300 Under The Radar: Theo Martins Goodwill Hunting (RZA 94) Prod. $port [mp3]For this installment of Under The Radar, I have to feature two of my favorite artists who seem to excel even more when working together: Theo Martins and $port. They paired up to form Chris Connery — an ode to DJ Premier (first name Chris) and actor Sean Connery — and put together the EP You Can’t Do To That On Television, an ode itself to the old school Nickelodeon show. That EP was set to drop last fall but it was pushed back when Hall of Justus showed interest. While we’re waiting for that to drop, here’s a track from the duo we didn’t get to post when it first came around. It’s Theo doin’ the damn thing over some ‘94-era RZA-type-shit. Enjoy.

I’m not just saying this because he’s a Rhode Islander, but joe beatsJoe Beats is one of my favorite producers. Hands down, I have a hard time finding cats who can top what he does. And on this track, he remixes Kno’s already-dope beat for “Hellfire” and gives it an extra something special. I’ve also included a bonus download of the instrumental for “Any Port”, which appeared on his famous album with Sage Francis as Non-Prophets. If you’re feeling like this isn’t enough Joe Beats for you, and I wouldn’t blame you for that, head here to get some more.

phonte 200x300 Under The Radar: 1500 Or Nothing Autumn Love Song (Fall For You) Feat. Phonte [mp3]I’m a huge Phonte fan so when I saw this 1500 Or Nothing track featuring him, I had to download it. Chances are I got it from one of the bigger blogs whenever 1500’s mixtape dropped. But hey, chances are you might have missed it! I know I played the hell out of it for months. Phonte kills the hook and verses whether he’s flexing his vocal chords or just spittin’ about falling in love with a lady he works with. I hope 1500 and Tay can link up again because, even with the bombast synths, their pairing up really worked.

Kidz In The HallFor this installment, I wanted to post El-P’s remix of one of my favorite driving songs: Kidz In The Hall’s “Drivin’ Down The Block”. The Def Jux kingpin adds some nice bars along with plenty of galactic synthesizers and bass, both of which are more or less his calling card. I’m not sure which version I like more because I really enjoy the other remix featuring Bun B, The Cool Kids, and Pusha T, especially since I always felt like this track was a Clipse joint anyway.

flying-lotus-close up-potholes-in-my-blogI came up with the idea for this weekly (or bi-weekly, it depends) Under The Radar post after iTunes made me re-enter my entire library. I realized that I had a ton of loose mp3 files that were offered for free by artists on either their MySpace pages, blogs, or whatever. And I feel like a fair amount of ‘em were probably missed by our readership for whatever reason. I mean, some of this shit will probably fly way under the radar for most people, so this also works as a way to showcase certain artists deserving some more shine. I also realize that some of these cuts won’t be new to everyone, but hey, if you have it already then simply move along and wait until next week.

And for my first installment, I wanted to post Flying Lotus’s remixes of two Lil Wayne songs. Yes, I know, we hardly ever post anything related to Weezy or Young Money in general. But hey, I — and hopefully you — cannot deny the greatness of these FlyLo remixes. Truth be told, it wouldn’t really matter if the worst MC alive was spitting on these. Luckily enough, the Flying one decided to remix two of Weezy’s better recent efforts in “A Milli” and “I Feel Like Dying”, the latter of which I cannot stop playing. We have the direct mp3 files for both tracks and then the zip file that includes the instrumentals if you don’t want to hear the Martian.
