The week of Flying Lotus continues with the release of “Cosplay,” an expectedly grimy track from his rapping alter-ego Captain Murphy. It arrives as part of the Singles Series run by adult swim, who just revealed short animated film yesterday on The Birth of Captain Murphy. So now that we know how the Cap’n was born, it’s only right that we hear some new drugged-out, perverted raps from him right? Of course! That’s just what we have here from Murphy, who bounces all over the crunchy FlyLo instrumental (and Thundercat bass) with rhymes about “periwinkle sherbert,” “all these hoes [being] zombies,” and receiving pleasure from pain.
If any of that sounds weird, well, it is. However, it gets cut off rather bluntly at the end, which means it probably makes more sense in the context of Murphy’s next project. That’s not to say it doesn’t make sense on its own, but you’ll understand once you hear it for yourself. Hear the track below and download it here on Aug. 18.
