Hip-hop heads across the spectrum can agree: Cannibal Ox’s The Cold Vein is a classic and easily one of the best albums of the past decade. There’s no buts about it, though you can take it to the comments section if you’d like to argue otherwise. It’s with that in mind that the mysterious band of beatmakers known as 3:33 was nervous about deciding to put their own spin on Can Ox’s “Stress Rap”. It’s not only the fact that Vordul Mega and Vast Air perfectly complemented El-P‘s production. It’s that the album simply could not have resonated quite as strongly without El-P behind the boards. But man, when I tell you that 3:33 have done something special here, they have…and then some. Maybe I’m just a sucker for ol’ school breaks, but this is ill. Also, if you’re diggin’ this, be sure to mark Nov. 1 on your calendar. That’s when their new album, Live From the Grove, drops.
