Apparently, Madlib’s beat for Black Star’s new single, “Fix Up“, was previously given to everyone’s favorite recluse, Blu. He used the soulful production for his own track, “ez”, which has hit the web today. As you might expect, Blu’s recording quality is much lower, but it knocks nonetheless. The track stems from a project Blu recorded entirely over Madlib beats, though knows when said project will actually drop. If ever. Let’s hope Madlib gives away the rest of those beats so Blu can unleash the fury. [via]

that’s the thing about being an artist … you can do shit how you want it done.
kind of thought that was why he wasn’t with a major
Yeah, it’s a lazy choice as an artist. And?
It’s not because he’s lazy, he’s into that lo-fi kind of shit, I don’t agree with it, but it’s his choice as an artist.
Huge Blu fan but this just sounds like dogshit. If he’s too lazy to bother mixing it’s not like he can’t find someone to make his tracks listenable.
