When it comes to Devonté Hynes, it seems that even the word eclectic doesn’t properly describe his career in music. From punk with Test Icicles to acoustic pop with Lightspeed Champion and now we have Blood Orange. In his newest incarnation we find Devonté crouching over Prince’s burning guitar in CBGB’s. While The-Dream sounds like the 1984 P. Rogers Nelson transported to computer with Pro Tools, Blood Orange sounds like Prince if he was a member of Blondie.
The album Coastal Grooves is going to be released Aug. 8 on Domino Records, so hopefully he puts out something else before then to bridge the gap.
