Since finding BINKBEATS‘ amazing Beats Unraveled series last year, we’ve watched him completely re-create songs like Flying Lotus’ “Getting There,” a series of J Dilla beats, and Shlohmo’s “Places.” It’s been an interesting journey for both the unbelievably talented Dutch artist and his fans who have seen him grow from a guy getting love on lil’ sites like ours to landing a sponsorship deal with the Boiler Room. They’re hosting his final Beats Unraveled installment—please do it again in like a year or so, sir—and it’ll probably leave your jaw on the floor.
You see, all of those aforementioned renditions of tracks like “Getting There” were astounding, yes. However, I’m not sure he’s come as close to imitating the original like he has with this take on Atoms for Peace’s “Default.” Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve been a follower of Thom Yorke for so many years—Radiohead was one of the first bands I truly loved. Because if I didn’t know any better, I’d tell you it was Yorke and the rest of Atoms for Peace performing their track here, and not some dude who is clearly so stupidly talented that I hope he continues to get the attention he so deserves.
You can watch the performance below.
