  1. I’m not sure his songwriting has improved. If anything, like I said, it’s just different and able to appeal to a larger audience.

When you look at his older stuff, he had some great tracks like Neva Go Back, Hometown Hero, Children of the World, but the hooks weren’t something that would get stuck in your head for the day. Appreciated all the same, if not more than the majority of hooks on R4 where he just goes “Rotatin my tires x^x” or “My Sub, My Sub, My Sub…”

The only thing that really saves those tracks for me, and turned them into perhaps some of my favorites is Big KRIT’s absolutely MASTERFUL control/variation in tempo.

  2. ^^^^Exactly. And as it should. I’d venture to say his song-making has improved, where as before i’m sure his main focus was on the bars and put a hook together without too much thought. That clearly has changed, but that clearly shows his maturation within the art. *Kudos* to him.

  3. I think what you’re getting at is that his songwriting has improved.

  4. To further elaborate what I was thinking here, right from the beginning you have some tracks with HEAVY repetition which makes you automatically think catchyness. The hooks are more defined here whereas I think in KRIT wuz here and even his earlier stuff the focus was more on lyrical, conscious rap.

Don’t get me wrong, KRIT stills shows that on a lot of the tracks here, but he’s giving us the best of both worlds.

  5. I disagree that this album is made for a different audience … its along the same lines as K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, just better … I think the highs were higher on Krit Wuz Here, but the lows were also lower … this joint right here is smooth and consistent throughout, which is remarkable for an album that has 21 cuts on it. The last album that was that consistent was Smoke DZA’s “George Kush Da Button Deluxe Edition” … the lyrics/content wasn’t as good as this, but it was definitely a well done album with 20+ tracks.

  6. Incredible album. I like it more than “Krit Wuz here” which was very dope. You can hear the growth from the last album. Conceptually he’s running laps around his contemporaries. All that “f*ck your b*tch & smoke my weed” rap sounds lame in comparison. This album is even more impressive considering its also completely self-produced.

That “Free My Soul” track >>>>

  7. This is excellent. Seriously, I hope the bloggosphere reviews the fuck out of this and gives Krit some much needed promo, how this album is “free” I will never know. I wanna cop this on cd man. It’s a cliche thing to say but Krit IS destined for greatness.

  8. This is…so…GOOD

  9. Personally, expectations might have been too high (as I was expecting perhaps an all-time classic). One thing is for sure, the production here is masterful, K.R.I.T. still at the top of his game. You need to understand he’s looking for hype here, with the obvious bangers this album is laced with throughout. That being said, it doesn’t feel as empty as you would expect. Big K.R.I.T. still delivers lyrically, you can just tell that it’s catered towards a different audience than Krit Wuz Here. He’s built his solid cult following, only time will tell if he blows up… I think he will, and by no mean was this album a conflict of creative interest.

91/100. Album of the Year so far..
