Jeremiah Jae & Beastie Boys | Black Castle  [Mixtape]

jeremiah-jae-beastiesOne of the biggest and best surprises of the week arrived when we heard Black Castle, a new project by Brainfeeder rapper-producer Jeremiah Jae. The ridiculously talented Chicago native saw it fit to remix some of his favorite Beastie Boys into smoked-out pieces of rap psychedelia. Thankfully for everyone involved, the results are fantastic and might leave you listening to the Beasties for the rest of the day.

You can download Black Castle here.

Various Artists | The New York Renaissance  [Mixtape]

new-york-renaissanceWhile we would have liked to see acts like Ratking, the Underachievers, and Sene on The New York Renaissance mixtape, Peter Rosenberg still did a damn good job corralling some of his city’s best talent. You’ll hear new material from Homeboy Sandman, Action Bronson, Joey Bada$$, DyMe-A-DuZiN, YC The Cynic and many more on this free release. If you don’t have it downloading yet, may I ask why not?

You can download the tape on DatPiff.

Various Artists | MITSUDA  [Compilation]

mitsudaIf you have ever played a video game in your life, then you damn well better recognize the greatness of composers like Koji Kondo and Yasunori Mitsuda. Without their work, who knows what games like The Legend of Zelda and Chrono Trigger would have been like. OK, I’m sure they still would have been great, but musically? Probably not.

My ranting aside, some of our favorite producers got together to create a tribute to Mitsuda and his unbelievable music. We’re talking Ryan Hemsworth, Julian Wass, Keyboard Kid, and many more, all of whom have clearly been inspired by the Japanese composer.

You can download MITSUDA on Bandcamp.

Birthday | Vibes  [Album]

birthday-vibesVibes represents another strong notch in the belt of Maryland producer Birthday, who’s really killin’ it on the ’80s-infused instrumental hip-hop tip. His cuts get funky but never to the point you really want to dance or move along to them. It’s more that you could hear these tracks on the soundtrack of an ’80s flick during some pivotal or emotional scene.

You can download Vibes on Bandcamp.

TiRon & Ayomari | The Wonderful Prelude Pt. 1  [EP]

tiron-ayomari-wonderful-1To be blunt: I’m a huge fan of TiRon and Ayomari. I have kept their A Sucker For Pumps album on constant repeat–how many albums can you say that about?–and cannot wait to hear what comes of their new project, The Wonderful. They release the first portion this past week and, just like everything else they have done, it’s a straight-up fantastic listen.

You can download the EP on Bandcamp.
