It’s safe to say that the winner of the past week was Tyler, the Creator, whose new album, Wolf, finally dropped. It’s looking to push a solid number of units and Tyler gave one of his best late-night performances of his career doing “Rusty” on The Late Show With David Letterman. We’re hoping De La Soul runs the world next week, which is when they’ll drop their first single since 2004. If not, maybe we’ll just put together another list of albums that will probably never come out. Jokes.
Nicki Minaj ruffled some feathers when she claimed to be a better lyricist than most of her male cohorts, but we were mostly focused on Flying Lotus’ new song for Adventure Time. Well, that and the preview of J Dilla’s Lost Tapes release. And while Rick Ross continued to wear his dunce cap with pride this week, guys like Mike D of the Beastie Boys were out helping victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Now for some of the best single drops:
- James Blake – “Every Day I Ran” & “Take A Fall For Me” F. RZA
- Black Milk – “Computer Ugly Ugly/Why Worry”
- Erykah Badu – “On & On” (LAKIM Rework)
- Eric Lau – “Everytime” F. Rahel
- The Child of Lov – “Fly”
- Kastle – “Make You Stay” F. JMSN
- Zomby – “W I T H L O V E”
- K.Flay – “Hail Mary” F. Danny Brown
