Ben l’Oncle Soul – “Seven Nation Army”

I sure hope that Potholes has some French readers out there, because I would love to know what, exactly, is it that makes French musicians so damn creative – and good!? Apparently I’m a few weeks late one this one, but the Ben l’Oncle Soul train has departed in a major way. The French singer exploded last summer with his cover of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army”, updating the classic hit with a retro-soul vibe. Clearly influenced heavily by the likes of Stevie Wonder and The Temptations, Ben l’Oncle Soul is likely to strike the right chord with fans of contemporaries such as Raphael Saadiq and Platinum Pied Pipers.

Stream “Seven Nation Army” below and download it after the skip. I’ve also included a bonus track from his self-titled Motown France album, “Soulman” (sung in French), for your listening pleasure. [As always, Aurgasm keeps us well informed.]

    Hi Zach,

Thanks for posting music from artists from all around the world. For your information “Seven Nation Army” was released on the “Soul Wash EP” back in 2009. This summer’s hit was “Soulman”, from Ben’s self-titled album, “Ben l’Oncle Soul”, released on the Motown France label.

    Voila…keep up the good work!!!

    Peace
