The saga continues, y’all. We reported yesterday on Baauer‘s interview with the Daily Beast, which revealed that he had indeed heard Azealia Banks’ remix of his “Harlem Shake” single. It also revealed that he thought it was just “so-so” and didn’t want to move ahead with her version of the increasingly popular joint just yet. But wait! You think Banks was going to take that and just let it go? Of course not. Late last night, she hopped on her Instagram to reveal an alleged e-mail from Baauer that was sent on the evening of Dec. 24. We’ll see what he has to say about all this soon.
In related news, “Harlem Shake” just hit No. 1 on the iTunes singles chart.
i think you are missing the underlying point. What this story brings up is that very complex relationship between vocal artist and producer that has really revolutionized in the past 10 years.
It is more than gossip, it is about artistic property and music integrity.
What I think Potholes really does well is that it highlights a viewpoint that both recognizes the artists as people rather than meaningless trash. When other sites cover some shit, they just do it for the kicks. but on Potholes i feel like it is more of a discussion rather than mere reaction.
p.s. i don’t even get the whole fascination with the harlem shake, i don’t watch youtube or do reddit or w/e. i just feel like calling this gossip is mischaracterization.
i feel the same way. Banks is like the new Charles Hamilton. She is talented and could really be something, but is really her own worse enemy.

u know i really like Azealia’s music, she’s good at rapping and i like how she’s making use of great beats from electronic producers that America mostly ignores… but WTF. she is worse than Kanye when she speaks. her only possible defence is that she is like 20 or something so i can understand why she cant control herself but surely she must have management that should be trying to shut her up. plus the whole faggot thing is getting blown out of proportion as i’m sure azealia is gay or bi and perez hilton is a media whore anyway.
As for the baauer thing. all this email wil do is shut up those who just hated on her jumping on beats thinking she does it without permission just for her own advantaage. least this shows she has some decency to get in touch. i also wonder if baauer was orig gonna use banks to gain publicity and more exposure but once the song became massive he decided to ditch the idea cause he didnt need her anymore. the beat was given away for free at first so i dont understand what the fuss is about her rapping over it and putting it onlone for free, as if this doesnt happen alll the fucking time.
funny as azealia has done work with luckyme affiliates in the past. wonder how this will affect her relationship with them.

Look, we are fans of Baauer. We also think that Azealia has talent and needs to STFU and just focus.
Also, this is relevant as Banks has had previous issues with producers. And we support producers heavily here (as you have probably noticed) and want to make sure this gets settled.
