We last heard from Ayatollah when he dropped a quite fresh remix EP, Quixotic Remix, that featured new takes on tracks such as Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones Pt. II”. But apparently this producer was putting himself back in our ears to get us ready for his upcoming instrumental opus, Cocoon. This project looks to showcase Ayatollah’s depth and growth as a producer while providing fans with that signature soulful sound he’s been known for over the years. And here we have a track that falls right in line with that sentiment. “Lonely Girl” is built on a chopped-up vocal sample and grooves along with slick drums and fresh instrumentation. I think it’s safe to say I’m not the only looking forward to Cocoon‘s release on July 2o.
