M.A.S.K. (Making Art Sound Kool) was the first official release from the Waco, Texas trio, Strange Fruit Project, in over 3 years. After a few months they released the acappellas & instrumentals for all the producers and DJ’s of the world. Brazil took notice. Laudz, an up & coming producer representing Curitiba, Brazil, was inspired to add his touch to the group’s release. The remix EP showcases his knack for infectious melodies and larger than life production. There is no doubt Laudz took these acappellas and made them his own. As a member of the Elementality family, Laudz has produced tracks for artists like Silent Knight, MadKem & M. Josephine as part of DJ K.O.’s Living Out A State of Mind EP series. Shout out to KupiArt on the design.
Words by Nick Catchdubs; “I first met Kidz right before their debut album was coming out, and we’ve remained friends ever since. Double 0 and I have always talked about collaborating on something one day, and with the sound of ‘Flickin’ and the overall vibe of their new album the timing was finally right. The goal was initially just to come up with a cool track for DJs, but the remix took on a life of its own – watching them perform it live on the Crowd Control tour has been amazing!” Kidz In The Hall are set to drop their new album Land Of Make Believe March 9th on Duck Down. Nick Catchdubs and Proper Villains add some serious dance & house funk to the first single “Flickin”. Please give it a spin and let us know what you think. Props to Nahright

So glad the good people at Stones Throw finally decided to release this Mayer Hawthorne cover of “Thin Moon”. I heard it a few months ago on Sound Session with DJ Hyphen. They’ve pressed a small number of these on 45 which we’ll be giving away to the first couple hundred people that show up at their March 17th event 45 Live at SXSW (a collaboration with Converse & Wax Poetics). I’ve also included the original song by James Pants which is equally good. Props to Stones Throw
After dropping three incredible albums and three mixtapes in the last decade, Phonte & Rapper Big Pooh are set to release their final LP. It’ll be tough getting used to hip-hop without Little Brother because of all the humour and reality they convey through their music. “Curtain Call” is the first single produced by frequent collaborator Khrysis. Their album LeftBack, drops April 20th. Please give it a spin and let us know what you think.
After giving us “Just Begun” in late December, Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek are back with their latest single from the upcoming Revolutions Per Minute LP. “In This World” incorporates a lovely soul sample in the chorus combined with “If skills sold, truth be told/I’d probably be, lyrically Talib Kweli” verse by Jay-Z. You may remember the verse that from the The Black album. The tempo is a lot slower on this joint but still a worthy listen. Revolutions Per Minute is scheduled to be released April 6th.
DJ K.O. & the Elementality family return with the 4th installment in a year long series of EP’s that will be released on a monthly basis. Living Out A State of Mind Vol. 4 finds the usual suspects on the mic with production predominantly handled by Analogic this go round. Vol. 4 also introduces SeeMore, a production duo from the UK and the newest members of the Elementality family, with a select mix from their production catalog. Back on November 10, 2009, DJ K.O. embarked on a year long campaign to release 12 EP’s in 12 months. Living Out A State of Mind Vol. 4 is certain to pick up right where Vol. 1 through 3 left off. If you happened to miss any of the LOASOM releases, please feel free to head on over to Elementality Productions right now to check it out. Can’t forget to shout out the homie Objektiv One on the artwork.
Black Spade is back with a new joint. “New U” is produced by the always funky J*Davey. The homie Kenny posted this earlier today on his twitter. I’m always happy to hear some new Black Spade. I still go back and listen to To Serve With Love LP from time to time. Please give it a spin and let us know what you think.
In anticipation of their upcoming 4th album together in 5 years, Murs & 9th Wonder decided to give the fans a freebie that won’t be on Fornever dropping March 30th. Every time I hear Murs & 9th wonder I feel like right back in that Justus League era circa (2002-2006). Creatively these two always bring it. Really looking forward to the new LP, enjoy!
