I was originally drawn to this band not because of their awesome music, but because their name closely resembled the obscurely titled high school that I attended (Northern Highlands). After listening to their infectious single “Sugar Lips”, I have been craving more tunes from this five-piece group for the past few months. Luckily, with the approach of their next full-length LP, we get “Hiking”. Filled with more melodies and joy, North Highlands proves again that they are one of the many Brooklyn-based bands worth listening to. Check it out and share some thoughts.

Not too long ago, Gonjasufi dropped a killer LP called A Sufi And A Killer. You may recall that much of the production on that project was done by one of my favorite producer/DJs, The Gaslamp Killer. While the two artists aren’t exactly ordinary, a sense of musical bliss is created when they come together on wax. “When I’m In Awe” is another fine example of that. Filled with eerie vocals and sample-heavy production, the single is a perfect teaser for what’s to come. And now you may be asking, what’s to come? Well, we now have word that The Gaslamp Killer will be dropping an EP on October 12 called Death Gate via Brainfeeder. This Gonjasufi collaboration will land on that EP, along with more exciting music from the bone-sawing rhythm destroyer. Check it out and share some thoughts!

I don’t have much time to give you an in-depth analysis of this new joint from Emay, so just give it a spin and let us know what you think. We have been watching this kid build for the past year or so and it has been nothing but an absolute pleasure. With ill production and raps, Emay is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the months to come. This single right here is just the tip of the iceberg as we receive word that we can expect much more from the T-Dot wonder on the solo and collaborative tip.

As the summer moves on, we have been flurried with massive amounts of mediocre chillwave. While Small Black could very well fit in the category of “chillwave,” they are by no means mediocre. And with their new album New Chain on the way, it’s only right that we take a look at their latest single, “Photojournalist”. Filling the eardrums with slow-motion snares and lo-fi vocals, there is just something about this song that makes me want to play it over and over. As I sit in class taking advantage of free wifi in Australia, I thought I would post the latest leak from one of my favorite electro-pop bands, Starfucker. You better be pretty thankful for this post, the teacher is about fifteen feet from me and I have one earbud headphone hidden along my arm trying to see if this song is even worth my time. After playing through about30 seconds, I think it’s pretty safe to say that this track is worth it. Filled with indie dance grooves, the Fake Drugs remix gives a fresh spin to “Boy Toy”, while keeping the Starfucker touch intact. And you may be asking yourself why Starfucker decided to drop a remix. Well, much to my surprise, they are droppin a B-Sides album this week, featuring some awesome unreleased tracks and remixes that we have yet to hear. Before I begin with my first post in ages, Andrew Martin gets a huge high-five for single handedly running this site and making it kick-ass while I have been bumming off my parents money for the past month. With that, I would also like to let you guys know that between partying like a blogstar and my lackluster internet here in Australia, I am going to be making an effort to make blog posts again. So here is my first post in god knows how long, the latest single from one of my favorite bands doing it right now, Ducktails. Filled with lo-fi guitar riffs and zoned-out vocals, “Hamilton Road” is a perfect soundtrack for that excruciating three-hour car drive down the GSP to the Jersey Shore. This single will appear on Ducktails’ upcoming album, Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics, which will be available some time this fall! Check it out and let us know what you think!

As I report from the lovely country of Australia, I thought it would be cool to bring you guys some of the music that is popping over here on the local indie scene. One of those bands is Super Wild Horses, who recently dropped an infectious single, “Golden Town”. While the two look fairly innocent in their picture, the music is nothing short of chaotic. With Mikey Young of Eddy Current Suppression Ring (another Aussie) on production, Super Wild Horses are prepping the release of their album, Fifteen, which will be available August 24. Check out the single and be prepared to catch more updates from my Australian adventure.

While “Gold Skull” is certainly the standout pop-single from Miniature Tigers’ LP Fortress, “Bullfighter Jacket” remains my favorite track from the album. So when I found the tiny felines decided to release an awesome little video for the single, I was shaking in my boots! While there have been a considerable amount of awesome indie videos being released as of late, this one takes the cake. Taking a page out of the Where’s Waldo series, we venture into a world of social references and pure comedy. Check out the video after the skip and share some thoughts!
