Armchair A&R: The Roots Collaborations

Radiohead

radioheadConsidering the Roots sampled Radiohead for their Game Theory cut “Atonement” (which Jay-Z helped clear), we think that the Roots could do some fine work with Thom Yorke and Radiohead. Especially with Yorke’s affinity for hip-hop recently, we have a feeling the two could find a common creative bond. Both bands have reached a certain maturity in their career, and perhaps they are both looking to expand into new territory. Plus, the Roots’ ever-darkening sound is a natural fit for Thom Yorke and his emotionally torn compositions. This is a stretch, but we have no qualms throwing it into the mix.

Yo Gabba Gabba

roots-gabbaHere comes a collaboration for the kids, as we think a full album between Yo Gabba Gabba and the Roots would totally benefit the youth. With all the garbage that children are exposed to, the Legendary Roots Crew and the kid’s program could help children in a number of ways. Most notably, they could get the kids off to a great start when it comes to building their personal music taste. And not only would this be a cool album for youngsters, but I bet the parents would be pretty relieved that their kids’ soundtrack doesn’t reek of Kidz Bop.
