This past week, we reported that Flying Lotus was working on Thundercat‘s sophomore effort, a full-length Captain Murphy album, and a project he said he couldn’t talk about just yet. Of course, our minds started wandering as we tried to think of exactly what that mysterious project might be. As a result, we came up with our latest entry in our ongoing Armchair A&R segment, in which we come up with ideas for what we think a certain artist’s next album should be.
It wasn’t easy narrowing down who we think FlyLo could be working with. Although, to be fair, he has given us some hints over the past few months by way of interviews and tweets. We know, for example, that he’s excited by all the hip-hop newcomers making waves these past few years, like A$AP Mob, Odd Future, and SpaceGhostPurrp’s Raider Klan. We also know that the L.A.lien is a fan of Radiohead, so there’s most certainly that to take into consideration.

never know though, he did deny being captain murphy for months. maybe this was another red herring. but if anything it would be sense for any madlib collabs to be party of the captain murphy album.
Reaching is saying Kanye, though. FlyLo doesn’t really like Kanye, Hov, and all them.

erykah badu – both have openly talked about doing and album together and so far only managed to finish one track. why would he be so secretive all of a sudden
Odd future + danny Brown – seems very unlikely. in that recent pitchfork interview flying lotus said that they dont really hit him up for collabs for some reason. think flylo also once tweeted that he had beats for danny brown which has lead to anything as off now.
Could even be kanye west, maybe flying lotus finally got that call he has been wishing for lol. we do know kanye is fucking with flylo’s contempories in hudson mohawk. maybe its even a DOOM album!
thom yorke could be a possibility. and there must be some reason/person wanting to keep it a secret for now.

madlib + flying lotus isn’t unlikey at all. flylo tweated a year+ ago something like ‘madlib called and said we should get to work on our album’. giles peaterson then brought it up recently and flylo said he doesnt know what the deal is and madlib was really busy atm with just having a kid.
