When Apollo Brown announced (and released) his latest album — the fully instrumental, atmospheric Clouds — I was wondering how long it would take for an MC to hop on one of the tracks. Well, it took a bit longer than I expected, but here we have fellow Mello Music Group member Has-Lo spitting over the Detroit producer’s “Heirloom”. And, well, damn, it’s not the kind of track you want to play if you’re looking for a boost in your mood. It’s not that Has-Lo’s bars are necessarily depressing. It’s just that his tone adds another stark layer to a beat that already feels downtrodden and contemplative. If it’s raining where you’re at and you need something to complement the gray clouds, give “Heirlooms” a spin.
