I had read a thing or two about a new female rapper out of New York named Angel Haze but for whatever reason the hype surrounding her previous material just kind of turned me off. But when I saw this new track, “New York”, on Stereogum this afternoon, I figured, “Why the hell not?”, hit play, and BOOM, instant fan. With what sounds like Gil Scott-Heron grumbles and rapid hand claps behind her, Haze puts all of her competition to shame with breathless and refined bars. Listen below.
