Hit-or-miss is the best way to describe the music that comes from those who put an MPC down for an M-I-C. In the case of Ali Shaheed Muhammad he provided the kicks, snares and samples for Q-Tip and Phife Dawg who weren’t lyrical slouches, so it’s good to hear Ali rapping in 2011 and making an entertaining song out of it. It’s a 2.5-minute record that proves he still has it when it comes to beats and he raps with an energy that would probably sound foreign coming from the men he made classics with. It’s not hard for me to see something on the level of 88-Keys’ Death of Adam coming from Ali in the future.
