Every so often a new group comes around that catches my attention and doesn’t let go until I have to get them removed from my brain with the jaws of life. One of those groups to do so lately is Alecia Chakour & the Osrah. The songstress and her band create some of the better funk and jazz-laden soul that I have heard in some time. And seeing how those three genres are some of my favorites, well, I can’t help but be addicted. We have some pretty good live footage of the band performing “Walk On By” here for you all to enjoy. Unfortunately the sound gets muddy at some parts, but you should be able to get the (sexy) gist of it.

Wow! Yeah, this is so dope.
I’ve known Alecia since her days with the western Massachusetts band The Systematics. So, she went and graduated from college [good move] and then we didn’t hear of her much. Well, I’m blown away by this recording. She’s now got a mature voice and using ranges that I’ve never heard her use before. She’s finally grown into her voice. She’s backed herself with a great band. I’m so happy for her.
