If you have listened to DaVinci, Shady Blaze, and Main Attrakionz‘ projects (both solo and together) in the past few years, you have run into the work of Bay Area producer Al Jieh. Some of y’all might also remember him from our first instrumental compilation, Midnight Snacks. If none of that applies to you, then consider Scales, Volume 1 the perfect opportunity to introduce yourself to one of my personal favorite producers.
Across its 14 tracks, his style shifts from more sample-driven jams (“Extraordinary”) to laid-back riders (“C5 Money Hype”) to introspective burners (“Year of the Dragon”). Most of these stem from tracks he produced for those aforementioned acts, but they’re sequenced well enough here to make Scales a strong solo release from Al Jieh.
