Ace Cosgrove – “Long Kiss of Death” F. Uno Hype [Potholes Premiere]

ace-cosgrove-lkodI’ve come to appreciate spontaneity as much as consistency within the realm of rap, and that’s because there’s something  undeniably special about unannounced inspiration and what creations come from it.  The stuff isn’t planned for, prepared, or packaged, and still, the impromptu efforts manage to sound as intriguing as any incorporating the aforementioned benchmark characteristic.

This isn’t news to the determined 22-year-old spitter from the DMV, Ace Cosgrove, though. He’s aware of what success lies within spontaneous efforts, and his stand-alone effort “Long Kiss of Death” explains why. It materialized unexpectedly; the beat was spun to ambitious ears in a studio session, some words were uttered, and a desire to make something out of the occurrences ensued.

And “Long Kiss of Death” was that something, organically sewn and assisted with by fellow Hostile Youth Movement member Uno Hype, who chips into the ominous track with some absolutely menacing bars. The lines arrive before Ace’s entrance, and he wraps up the effort with less aggressive, but still smooth lines that juxtapose Uno’s own. The combined energies of the two result in a hypnotic nodder, and leave us anticipating Ace’s upcoming project, Simple Criticism.
