Compared to the rest of the TDE squad, Ab-Soul never really resonated with me. I respect his grind, but I could never get down with his projects the way I did with Kendrick or Q. But I must admit, he is a great rapper, and he always finds a way to deliver. Especially on one-off tracks like the recently released “Dub Sac”. It is nice to see Ab branch out with his sound a bit, as he takes on a minimalist production with an erratic flow.
Stream “Dub Sac” below.

Kendrick is the clear cut frontrunner of TDE, and this is from a dude that thinks Ab-Soul has hung in toe to toe with Kendrick on every song that I’ve heard them on together. The difference is that with Ab-Soul, he’s like the good football player that’s comparable to the league’s best player, but can’t stay healthy. That’s how I feel about Ab-Soul. Some projects, I think he’s the best in TDE. Then, you get the less than stellar effort in other project and the lackadaisical delivery on a nationally televised cypher.
I really root for this dude, and songs like this validate why.
Control System is a powerful piece of work. I used to listen to that and LTM1 & 2 while I road my bike for miles. Soul is that real. He’ll be up soon enough.
Q is def the weakest in the crew. A is a beast. Longterm Mentality and Control System are amazing projects.
Yea, when it comes to TDE honestly my least favorite is Q. And as of late after really listening to Control System all the way through I think I may like Ab over Kendrick now. Just the track Book of Soul is filled with so much passion that it won me over.
There’s an argument to me made that when he’s on, Ab-Soul might be the best rapper in TDE. Control System has some incredible songs on it.
